My heartfelt thanks to Esme for introducing me to an artist like no other. You may or may not like the music, but you will be mesmerised by the story. I loved both, and I really didn’t think I would. Just listen :
hugs,
Meeks

Wow, Andrea. That was intense. The music isn’t something I’d relax to with a glass of wine, but it was so original – amazing lyrics and gripping performance. His short message at the end was thought-provoking, quiet, and quite profound. Thanks for the video and introduction to an artist I didn’t know.

I’m completely with you re the music. It’s not something I’d listen to ‘normally’ either, but Hi Ren is something that transcends just one pigeonhole, and yes, the ending really got to me. I’ve never suffered from the kind of nightmare that he talks about, but he made me /feel/ it. That is genius in my book.

Yeah, he left me with a lot of questions about his journey. What he discovered along the way was profound. If he wasn’t already singing it, I’d say there’s a book inside him.

Yes! And I hope that book comes out one day because this is a young man with both humanity and a deep intellect.

Not my cuppa tea, but like others commenting I too, watched it through to the end, because ‘t’were a stunning performance, and that needs to be witnessed and celebrated. π

Yes. π I fully expected to stop after the first little bit, yet before I knew it, I was watching the end and wanting to reach into the screen to give him a hug.

Amazing. Dark, yes, but at times funny. The finish was quite encouraging, too. And at about 6:30… he has a great voice!
Thanks for sharing Meeks!

Impressive performance! I guess that’s an example of “spoken word poetry.” Reminds me of a fellow named Shane Koyczan.

lol – I have no idea what spoken word poetry is about, but I love what he did in those 9 minutes. Kind of reminded me of how I imagine minstrels must have been – versatile and multi-talented.

Spoken word poetry is an art form where the performance is essential to conveying the words. It’s associated with events such as poetry “slams.” That said, my experience of it is limited.

Oh! I have heard of ‘slams’ but I know next to nothing about poetry so thank you. π

I liked the first minute of picking those strings – really cool
but the lyrics were dark and heavy for me and so did not watch it all
thanks for sharing

Definitely dark and heavy, but the very end was curiously uplifting. Glad you still got something out of it. π
