Just a few days ago I reached my first major milestone on Youtube – 100 subscribers! Thank you to everyone who visited my channel and subscribed. You made me feel that I wasn’t wasting my time. On such a new venture, that kind of support is gold, pure gold.
In further news, two of my videos have reached milestones of their own: 1000 views, and a couple more are getting there very quickly so I’m thrilled. This is one of the new ones that’s getting a lot of views:
If you click on ‘Watch on YouTube’ you’ll be able to see a larger version of the video.
I would like to say that my how-to and reading videos are doing as well, but they’re not, at least not yet. I hope that in time I’ll be able to use YouTube for other aspects of my work. Till then, I’m still learning, still improving and, most importantly, still enjoying the process. D
cheers,
Meeks

Hi Meeks, I see you are now at 183 subscribers. Go you. I hit 101 so I am also creeping up a bit. A few of my videos have also done well with hundreds or even a few thousand views but it isn’t consistent.

Oh grats, Robbie! I didn’t think 100 would make a difference but it really does. My subscribers have jumped through no effort on my part. I think after that milestone, Youtube presents our videos to more viewers or something.

By the way, if you have a video with distinct sections, you can create links to them in the description. e.g. 0:00 Intro 0:35 Ingredients etc. The timestamp tells Youtube what to do. Seriously, I couldn’t believe it would be that easy. Just type the list in. I’ll be using it on all my how-to type videos.

Wow. You’re doing great with youtube. It seems like you were just experimenting a few weeks ago. That’s great progress and it’s so fun to watch your creations. I’m always astounded at your tech abilities. 😀

lol – I’m /still/ experimenting. The video editing software I’m using is convoluted, to say the least. I’ll do a review of it one of these days. In the meantime I’m still having to look up other people’s how-to’s. Using the player housing as my ‘content’ does make it a little easier as I can just focus on the narration and the tech. Bottom line though…it’s fun. 😀

It looks fun, but also intimidating. I’m glad you’re sticking with it. It will get easier and I know you’ll keep refining too.

Heh heh … I didn’t think you’d be that shocked!!! This past week, my angst level has driven me to strive for a bit of balance, and when I saw your post, I thought I’d give it a whirl. I was enchanted and stayed around for the entire video! It made me smile and … brought a few minutes of peace. You are very talented to be able to put something like that together!

Ugh…the angst part doesn’t sound good. If my little video gave you some time out then I’m very happy indeed.
By the way, another writer friend of mine plays Minecraft. It may be something you could get into…to switch off for a little while. -hugs-

No, the angst is not good and is not helping my heart problems one bit, but … it is what it is. I care too much about the people, the state of the nation, our political turmoil, and the environment to turn it off. I have a friend who says she just never thinks about all that, but goes on merrily with her life and tunes all the bad stuff out. I guess we’re all made differently, for I just cannot do that.
Granddaughter Natasha plays Minecraft … it just never really captured my interest. I do, however, work Sudoku puzzles! Does that count?

I admit I was getting that way on Twitter. I still care, but now that I’m away from that toxic environment, at least I don’t stress as much. And yes, Sudoku counts. 😀

p.s. building houses in ESO is a bit like building dollshouses as a kid. Or maybe like creating something new as an architect. It’s…play. 🙂

-grin- I wish I could get you interested in the gaming side of things. Getting in-game and letting off steam by killing some monsters is very therapeutic believe it or not. And you can decorate houses without building them!
Sometimes you /need/ to switch off, especially in today’s world.

Believe it or not, I do play Animal Crossing New Horizons with my girls (daughter Chris and granddaughter Natasha) every night! It came out quite timely in March 2020, just when the pandemic hit and the shutdowns began, and we began playing it then. Except for the couple of weeks I was in the hospital last year, I’ve played it with them every night! We design our houses, our island, interact with the animal residents, complete challenges, fish, catch bugs, and have a good time all ’round. It’s an hour or sometimes two that my mind is NOT on politics and the state of the world! 😊

Awwww … I’m so sorry! I asked Natasha, my geek granddaughter, and she said it’s because Nintendo owns the exclusive rights to the game. In today’s world, it seems that we need all the fun and joy we can get and ‘exclusive rights’ be damned! It is a lot of fun … peaceful, yet challenging at the same time.

Thanks Jacqui. Subscribed and watched your video for Natural Selection. It’s brilliant! Seriously. It had me engrossed from start to finish. What app did you use to put it together?
I was surprised though that you’d turned comments off. Why? I love leaving comments and reading them too.
Sticking my big nose in here but…maybe put in an endscreen as well? That way people who watch one of your videos will get the option of immediately watching another one.

I used Canva for this one. I was amazed how easy that program made it to be a creator. That endscreen is a great idea. Is that what those are? I had no idea.
So often, YT comments are snarky so I just didn’t want to deal with them! Sigh.

Yes, those things that pop up at the end of my videos. They lead viewers to more of your work. Of course they can cancel without watching, but I know I’ve ended up going from one video to the next if I’m interested. 😀
Turn the comments on Jacqui, especially for the education videos. Often people will ask for specific help. That kind of engagement will get more people watching the videos. Just ignore the snark. 😀
