A short while ago I wrote a post about a terrible experience I had while trying to buy one, single pillow online. You can read that post here.
Today I’m overjoyed to be able to say that the full refund hit my bank account:

I’m still waiting on my new card, but at least I have my money back. I credit this blog for at least some of that. My thanks to all of you for having my back. đ
I am the kind of person who always has to know why things are the way they are so my interests range from genetics and biology to politics and what makes people tick.
For fun I play online mmorpgs, read, listen to a music, dance when I get the chance and landscape my rather large block.

Yes, it is nice to get a win. I’ve had some health concerns so money worries on top of that is too much. Luckily, all my worries seem to have evaporated. đ
We all want to feel justice has been done. Congratulations! Some people give up, but I’m like a dog digging after a bone when it comes to stuff like this.
Thanks, Jill. I’m so relieved, and not just for the money. I feel as if I’ve struck a teensy weensy blow for consumers everywhere. Ok, make that a microscopic blow but a win is a win, right?
A win is a win, and perhaps they’ll now fix whatever glitch caused them to bill you for 4 pillows you never ordered, so the next person won’t have the problem!
Gods I hope so! But what an indictment of our culture that it takes people screaming and shouting to companies to do what they should have done in the first place. Our ethics are totally back to front.
Thus it has always been, my friend. The squeaky wheel gets the oil. As long as we sit down and don’t complain, don’t raise objections, don’t even sometimes protest in the streets, ‘they’ will get by with and take from us as much as they can. You did good, my friend.
-sigh- I know you’re right, but the Don Quixote in me still thinks it shouldn’t be /necessary/.
I know this is a conversation that could go on forever, but don’t you think it’s a cultural thing? None of us enjoy making waves a certain type of person ends up rising to the top – usually someone who is the complete antithesis to us. And they get there because we believe that the ‘strong’ should lead.
Sorry, I’m a bit tired so probably not making much sense.
Oh yeah … I hear you, my friend! Many things that are, shouldn’t be necessary. It shouldn’t be necessary for me to glance at the waist of people I encounter in the grocery store to determine if they have a gun tucked into their belt … but it is. Oh yes, we could keep this conversation going well into next year! Well, I’m not so sure I see it as a cultural issue, but more an issue of greed among the wealthy capitalists. I suppose, though, that there is an element of the cultural involved, for much of society has learned to lie low, accept what is, don’t make waves. And I have talked to people who for some reason honestly believe that the wealthy deserve to be wealthy and conversely, that the poor deserve to be poor. Now THAT mentality is cultural … familial … and unfortunately passed from one generation to the next. It isn’t necessarily the strongest or the most intelligent or the most compassionate who win elections, but often it is a matter of who has the most money to spend to spread their lies. Sigh. I’ve stumbled off topic, haven’t I? Sorry!!! That’s my mind for you … one thought segues into another!
lol – you’re welcome to segue whenever you wish! I’m horrified though, do you really have to check to see if people are wearing a gun?
I mean, I know guns are a massive problem in the US, but knowing and feeling are two different things, aren’t they? That image of having to check someone’s /waist/ is so…visceral. đŚ
Yes, my friend, it has become a habit to check and see if I detect a gun. A couple of years ago, I was sitting in a Barnes & Noble book store perusing the books when a man bent over in front of me to look at, of all things, a gun magazine, and I noticed a pistol sticking out of his belt. I got up, got my girls, set my books on a table, and left the store as quickly as possible, after telling the manager on duty why. If you go to a store here, and you encounter 10 people, the odds are that at least two of them have a gun somewhere on their person. Welcome to the United States of America. Sigh.
The laws vary from state to state, but yes, in most states it is perfectly legal to carry a concealed weapon into almost any venue. Some businesses have even been sued for having a “no guns” policy!
That’s…I honestly don’t know what to call it. Guns are so far removed from my life I’ve never even seen one in real life. Nor do I want to. I wish this were not the reality my North American friends have to live with. -huge hugs-
I get emails every week telling me that I’ve been “prequalified” for a concealed carry license, and others trying to sell me an AR-15, a military-style assault rifle that can shoot something like 100 rounds in a minute. It is a frightening place, my friend. Twice I have faced a person pointing a gun with me. Interestingly, both times I got angry instead of fearful, and the first time was my ex-husband, and instead of being afraid, I kicked the whole side of his car in!!! He was so stunned he lowered the gun and just said, “Look what you’ve done to my car!” But today, it’s different … some carry rifles over their shoulder into grocery stores, shopping malls, and other public places. And, as you’ve read in the many, many headlines, they will use them at the slightest provocation … or NO provocation. Huge hugs back to you, dear Andrea!
Oh Jill…I wish you could bring your whole family here. Or Canada. Or /somewhere/.
I know the US is home but to me it sounds like a war zone. -huge hugs-
Sigh. Me too, dear Andrea. There are many things wrong in this nation, many that threaten our very lives, but none so immediate and deadly as the gun crisis. Today I wrote about a member of Congress, a Republican, who stood up and said he supports a ban on assault weapons, and raising the legal age to own a gun to 21. He was immediately vilified, his party now refuses to support him, and he is resigning from Congress at the end of this year. There’s a very real price to pay for even the mention of ANY form of gun laws or restrictions. If I had my choice of a place to go, it would be Australia, if for no other reason than you guys got all the cute animals! Hugs hugs ‘n love to you, dear friend.
As an outsider looking in, it feels as if something truly terrible has to happen before the power of the NRA is broken, but if not Sandy Hook or the slaughter of children that continues year after year, then what?
The animals aren’t all cute – we have some of the most venomous critters in the world – but our kids can go to school in safety.
Maybe one day we’ll get to have a cuppa together. -hugs-
My friend, I’ve had the feeling for a while now that something horrific is going to have to happen to pull this country together, to remind us what is important. When? What??? I don’t know, but it’s going to happen … I feel it, I smell it.
I’ve heard that you have some mighty venomous critters too, but still … you’ve got quokkas and koalas and kangaroos … what’s not to love? And David is enthralled by the birds, of course! Y’know … I’ll take my chances against your venomous snakes rather than our nutcases carrying rifles any day! Sigh.
lol – they are a special design that’s supposed to help people who are both side sleepers and back sleepers. They kind of look like very fat butterflies. đ
Better Business Bureau. Turn them in for deceitful practices. A kind of Buyer Beware. I can check the BBB before I do business with a company new to me to see if they have problems.
We have an Ombudsman, but I’m not sure whether the position can do much for transactions outside Australia. As usual, our uptake of tech has outstripped the safety nets that govts can, or at least should, provide.
