I’ve been doing a lot of graphics lately. It seems to be the only creative activity I can focus on with all the craziness in the world, so here are the latest concept images of the iVokh:

These two images will never grace the cover of a book, but they have clarified a number of simple mechanical issues for me. One of them is that when the primary arms are held up above the head, the legs have to be a little bit apart otherwise there is not enough ‘give’ in the wings.
I would very much like to create an image of the iVokh flying, but I know that will be a major project so instead I’m working on creating a digital ‘collage’ of the Tukti. They’re cute little critters and have an important role to play in the on-going story of Vokhtah.
This is the original concept drawing:
And this is how far I’ve got in translating that concept into a more photo-realistic, 3D image:
Creating something that looks ‘furry’ with vector graphics has been a lot harder than I originally thought. Read…I didn’t think. Anyway, I’m pleased with how the head and body finally turned out, and once I have the legs done, I’ll do a post showing a little bit of the process. As per usual, I create my digital collages with Corel Draw X8.
Hope you’re all having a great weekend,
cheers,
Meeks

Hi Meeks, I like your images. They are very detailed. Sometimes I start a new art project and find itβs much harder than I thought. Iβll see how my live worm pie turns out. My WIP is languishing since my run in with covid three weeks ago. π£ my poetry is flourishing.

I can well understand how that might be. I haven’t been able to write in months, but the graphics keeps me grounded.
Btw, be careful with your health. If by some horrible chance you develop long Covid, it could last for months so treat yourself with care. -hugs-

The Tukti looks very fluffy! Nicely done, whatever you did. Lol. I love how your images are based on the actual functioning of the bodies, and I’m glad you’ve found a way to relax during these horrific times. It’s unbelievable what’s going on in the world, and shocking that 7 billion people can’t seem to stop one man.

I couldn’t agree more, Diana. It feels as if we’re having an epidemic of insanity along with Covid.

There has to be a way to end this. And I don’t understand why that hasn’t happened.

I think we’re…transitioning into a new something, god knows what though, and these are the birth pangs. Or maybe the human race really is insane, and we won’t rest until we make ourselves extinct. π¦

There does seem to be a collective horror drawing the world together, as well as something heroic about the Ukranian people that’s gripped every heart. We just need to end this war before they’re all dead. That would feel like the end of hope.

Yes. I think we’re seeing what true courage looks like. Not the manufactured, movie kind, but the tenacious, I-will-not-give-up kind. I know it makes me want to be a braver person.
We have to believe they will be a modern day David.

Reminds me a bit of the harem pants that were all the rage a while ago π … a long while ago. π

π … they’re those really baggy, crotch-about-your-knees, tight-at-the-ankle, pants that used to be quite popular in the early days of rap music

Those are really good, Meeka. What are you going to do with them? I like the last little guy a lot!

Thanks, Jacqui! I think of the first two images as biological/anatomical references. The little guy is possibly the first of many. I can’t tell you what their significance is to the story but they are significant, so the little guy or one of his siblings may grace a cover one day. π

I spent some time in Photoshop, learning it’s ins and outs, but this is definitely a cut above.

These are quite good. βFurry things in vector graphicsβ sound like.a daunting task. To you have the ability to create brushes or something similar? Itβs been a long time since Iβve seen Corel Draw (I am not an artist/illustrator. I managed IT for the company I worked for before retiring).

hi Dan. π I think Corel Photopaint may have brushes like Photoshop, but I have never spent much time on it. To be honest, I’m a terrible photographer so I never had occasion to learn Photoshop/Photopaint. I like vector because it’s clean and has transparent backgrounds which makes manipulating and layering of images possible. With these images I take bits and pieces of photos, ‘cut’ them to shape, layer them and sometimes use transparencies to blend the colours/light effects to give the illusion of depth. It’s an odd process but the more I do, the easier it becomes, mostly. lol
