Very interesting lyrics. I suppose the concept of paradise is very relative. I’ve been reading a book set in the 1400s and our modern lives with medical care, good food, and all the electronic assistance are infinitely better.

lol – I’ve never been tempted by the ‘romance’ of history. Muck, dirt and death. No thanks. The way I see those lyrics, we /could/ create something close to paradise if we could only get over our need to destroy ourselves.

Oddly enough, Within Temptation’s singer, Sharon, lives with her husband (and band co-founder) Robert in the same town as my former brother-in-law: Soest, NL. My former brother-in-law says he sees them in the local supermarket on occasion. One of the top mixing studios in Europe, which all these bands use, is also in Soest, literally just down the road from my brother-in-law’s house. Kind of odd, as the place is a village (by Dutch standards) and has that feel to it – Hilversum, where you’d expect such facilities to be set up, is only a few minutes’ drive away in one direction and Utrecht the same distance the other. It’s a piddly narrow street too, my sister’s car got written off while parked outside their house because the spaces were so tight. And yet there’s this top-flight sound studio just down the road drawing clientele from across the continent.
