I am the kind of person who always has to know why things are the way they are so my interests range from genetics and biology to politics and what makes people tick.
For fun I play online mmorpgs, read, listen to a music, dance when I get the chance and landscape my rather large block.
Work is writing. When a story I am working on is going well I'm on cloud nine. On bad days I go out and dig big holes...

That’s so beautiful, Andrea. This whole war is so senseless. I just can’t wrap my head around the cruelty. Why? Why? Why? Thank you for sharing this beautiful part of Ukraine and showing the world what’s being lost.
I used to believe that humans were basically a good bunch. Sure, we made mistakes. Sure, we could be short-sighted. Sure, there were bad apples amongst us, but there are rogue elephants too, right?
-sigh-
Now, I’m not so sure. 😦
-sigh- More than just a few bad apples, Diana. Each one of those men in power is backed by an army of ordinary people who want what those shysters are selling. Yes, they’re being manipulated, but they also /want/ to believe the lies. That is what depresses me the most. 😦
Yeah, I know. I live in a Trumpy area, and though I think many of them are living in bizarro world and believe the most outrageous lies, most of them would also help out a neighbor at the drop of a hat. It’s hard to navigate.
Hmm…that ‘most of them would also help out a neighbor’ actually makes me feel better. I’ve been picturing them as people without a shred of true empathy.
It’s weird, I know. If you say something about climate change being real, they’ll shoot you in the street, but if your house is on fire, they’ll all run in to save you.
You know, that sounds an awful lot like people who’ve been…brainwashed? into denial??? Kind of scary to think that social media can be /that/ powerful.
I’ve read so many conflicting theories about why people are reacting the way they do. Sometimes I stop and wonder, am I just as brainwashed but in a different direction? The only thing I’m sure of is that compassion is never wrong.
My college major was Russian (and economics). I traveled there for a summer so became pretty fluent in reading/writing/talking. It has a bazillion rules but follows them. Unlike English!
Wow…I’m truly surprised! And I can’t help thinking how this is one more thing in which we are eerily similar. I didn’t study Russian at uni, I studied Japanese with a smidgeon of Chinese. Sadly I’ve barely retained a few words of the spoken language and can recognize a few kanji. That’s it.
High Five my friend. 🙂

I think we are still a good bunch, but it just takes a few bad apples, doesn’t it? Mostly (white) men with lots of power.

I think we can hang our hats on that one, Andrea. Being kind and compassionate is not a bad way to go through life.

Wow! Amazing visuals! I just forwarded the link to a knitter friend. The visuals will knock her over.

Beautiful. If I work hard enough, I can remember the Cyrillic alphabet from fifty years ago!

We both seem to take the path less traveled–and love it!

Definitely worth watching for the effects. As you can imagine, I loved all the yarn and handmade goodies. The teapot was pretty cute!
