The people of Ukraine are teaching us all a lesson about the true meaning of courage, and every day they hold out against Pooh Bear, the lesson becomes stronger. Bravo Ukraine!

Work is writing. When a story I am working on is going well I'm on cloud nine. On bad days I go out and dig big holes...

The Ukrainians’ courage is admirable. I hope the invader’s tanks run out of gas. How do they go home then?

I heard it on the news! Probably just one or two tankers. One Ukrainian said something about them not being able to get home. 🙂

Yes, it’s odd. I’ve heard of a lot of breakdowns slowing the advance. I wonder if there’s a bit of self-sabotage going on? Most of those soldiers had no idea they’d be sent into Ukraine to fight.

I wonder about that also, Meeka. I don’t know how much they know of what’s going on. They may be guessing as much as we do. At least the soldiers are not killing the civilians. Thank goodness.

It gets bad so quickly. I’m sad for the Ukrainians, Meeks.

It’s so unfair. Whatever reason Putin gives for his invasion, it pales to insignificance when measured against the suffering of the Ukrainians. And they are not giving in. I watched an interview last night in which a member of the Ukrainian government was talking about how everyone was using their phones to source medical supplies etc and direct them to the areas that needed them the most. In the space of a week, they’ve turned the government of Ukraine into a decentralised co-operative run as much by volunteers as by so-called ‘people in power’. If Putin tries to cut off the head of the government, everyone else will just shift to take up the slack.
Sorry to go on like this but I was sooooo impressed.

This whole invasion feels so disorienting. One day Ukrainians are going about their business, and the next they’re being invaded. Their courage is indeed inspiring and I hope the world steps to the plate and makes it loud and clear that this aggression won’t be tolerated.

No. 😦 Pooh Bear is being showed up at his own game and bullies like him escalate to cover their embarrassment. But although Putin’s forces may occupy Ukraine, I don’t think they’ll ever conquer the people. And Russian who oppose this ego-driven invasion will grow in Russia itself. Sooner or later someone’s going to decide that Vladimir Putin has become a liability.

Just read a rather chilling article about why Putin is doubling down, and it’s not just because he’s an egotistical bully. Apparently Russia is a /creditor/ nation which means that other countries like the US owe it money. It also supplies China with the raw materials the Chinese use to make the super cheap stuff we’ve become addicted to. So unless we give up our obsession with toys, we’ll never be able to starve Russia of funds for its war. 😦

I think a whole new generation now knows what a Molotov cocktail is, and I don’t mean the Ukrainians. As outsiders looking in, it all feels kind of…surreal.

My attitude about weapons (short of Molotov cocktails) changed dramatically when I had kids–something to protect. Until then, theory was fine. I imagine the Ukrainians feel that way, too.

I know what you mean about how your attitude changes when you have kids. I couldn’t imagine myself killing anyone until then. Now, I know that I’d kill to protect the Offspring. Useless at all weapons though so I’d probably have to hit the bad guy over the head with my cast iron fry pan…

A people of great determination not to lose their independence again. They want self determination not a puppet government. Every country has that right..

You are so right David. They really are fighting for freedom, real freedom. I wonder how many of our armchair warriors would do the same?
