And no, that title is not a typo. ‘The Weeknd’ is the name of a Canadian singer I just discovered thanks to the Offspring. Part singer, part actor, part philosopher, this young man really knows how to tell a story:
But while the writer in me loves the concept behind ‘Gasoline’ – the reverse of Eudaimon, if you will – ‘Call Out My Name’ is the music that engages my emotions at a visceral level. Damn he can sing!
I am the kind of person who always has to know why things are the way they are so my interests range from genetics and biology to politics and what makes people tick.
For fun I play online mmorpgs, read, listen to a music, dance when I get the chance and landscape my rather large block.
Work is writing. When a story I am working on is going well I'm on cloud nine. On bad days I go out and dig big holes...

WOW. So happy that you discover Weeknd. Yes, Weeknd has those superstar vocals and taste in music. ‘Wicked Games’ is a favourite as well as ‘The Hills’, ‘High For This’, ‘Hurt You’, and ‘Twenty Eight’. If you end up listening to any of those songs, I would love to know which one(s) you like. Take care. Splendid.
Hi Gossip Drop and welcome. π I haven’t heard any of those yet, but I love recommendations so I’ll check them out. If they’re anything like the ones I’ve heard so far, I’m sure they’ll be pretty spectacular. Cheers!
Hi Meeks, I have never heard of this band before. I am sitting in the same room as Michael and he nearly fell of his chair with surprise when he heard it. “That’s new, Mom, why are you listening to it?” Hahaha! A great song.
Fascinating music. I must admit (well, I shouldn’t but to be honest i will…), I still love the classics of the 60s and I push myself to learn new music. The other day I was driving my 8-year-old grandson home and I had my ’60s station on and he asked, “WHAT’s THIS SONG?” and I told him and then he said, “WOW, this music is much better than the stuff in the 21st century. I can understand the words!” Yes, he said that. Of course he’s smart – he’s my grandson. Ha. That said this music you share here is enticing.
lmao That young man is going to change the world, and I’m talking about your grandson!
I’ll let you into a secret – my favourite decade for music is the 70’s. Sssshh! That said, The Weeknd has some of the best qualities from that era, and being able to sing instead of screech is definitely one of them. π π
Those pieces are so different! The first is visually engrossing, but both are great listens. Like you, I preferred the mellower 2nd, but I’m old, so that makes sense. Ha ha. Thank the offspring for me. π Thank you for the introduction to a fabulous musician.
His voice has that old-fashioned heart throb thing going! Yes, I’ve heard of him and shook my head a bit about his chosen name, but… better than Monday Morning. Right?
lmao! Definitely better than Monday Morning. I wonder though whether there isn’t a play on words going on as well? Maybe we should read his handle as ‘weakened’?
I also love the song. Thank you for sharing, Meeka! As i now virtually have entered Australia π let me wish you a Happy New Year. Be blessed with your, and also enjoy the rest of the week! xx Michael
I MEAN POST Wham days when he established himself as a top singer with some tender lyrics. one of the few who could front Queen and also cover Elton John songs at an Elton concert. a much under rated voice.
Hugs

LMAO! Now /that/ is a win. Tell him he has a ‘with it’ Mum. On second thought, ‘with it’ is probably very old hat.
