WHY Omicron is displacing Delta

Just watched the latest podcast by Dr John in which he explains new research out of South Africa:

This is not a three-second-sound-byte type podcast. It is nuanced and looks at the science behind the news, but it is well worth watching from start to finish because it explains the trends that we have been seeing, both in South Africa and more recently in the UK.

By trends I mean, of course, Omicron’s extremely high infection rates coupled with relatively low rates of severe disease and death. According to the research in Dr John’s podcast, these trends are not a fluke. And that spells good news for 2022.

Unfortunately, we’re not there yet. Delta is still around, and it is still causing severe disease and death, so going out and going nuts in the hope of catching Omicron could still see a lot of people ending up with Delta instead. Dying of Delta when the end is literally in sight would be a terrible irony so the Offspring and I are going to stay safely at home until Omicron finishes defeating Delta.

Stay well,

    Hello from the UK.

Many thanks for this post. As regards Covid 19 and Omicron are you aware that this is an anagram of moronic?

As regards Covid 19 are you aware that this is the ‘flu made out to be a deadly monster by incessant advertising?

Are you aware that you have been driven to fear something which is merely the toxicosis of the body partly due to metabolism of food mainly producing urea, and partly due to the many poisons in our environment which can and do enter our bodies in the air, food and water.

Are you aware that it is vitamin D deficiency that is the world wide pandemic due to increased indoor living and working, together with demonising of the sun and use of poisonous sun creams with nasty chemicals in them?

Are you aware that case numbers have rocketed since the start of September 2021 when the Pfizer vaccine was rolled out in significant numbers?

Have you thought that the case numbers might be linked to the Pfizer vaccine as a consequence?

Are you aware that if your vitamin D levels are good, and you don’t poison yourself with nasty chemicals in food and drink and medications from big pharma which are mainly neuro-toxins and harmful, that you will tolerate a poisonous vaccine all being well, depending on what is really in it?

If not and you are curious to know I can explain or point you to my links on my website. If you should visit my website, please note I do use humour as necessary on posts and pages to lighten the mood and help make the points.

May I take the opportunity to wish you a very happy new year.

    Kind regards

    Baldmichael Theresoluteprotector’sson

Please excuse the nom-de-plume, this is as much for fun as a riddle for people to solve if they wish.

Whilst I might agree with parts of your comment, most of it seems to be the mantra of a conspiracy theorist. If you want to believe it, fine, that’s your prerogative. I just hope that your precautions keep you out of hospital and safe.
If your beliefs inform your actions, however, and you do get sick and infect /others/, then I would feel nothing but disgust and contempt.
      Stay well.

I’m under no illusion that our pandemic situation is ongoing. The current official ‘let it rip-personal responsibility’ stance that coincided with the arrival Omicron leaves me… I have no words.
    This article seems realistic… https://www.msn.com/en-au/news/australia/why-mild-omicron-isn-t-a-cure-for-australia/ar-AASmL8K?ocid=msedgntp

Yeah, Perrottet seems hell bent on letting it rip. We’re not quite so bad here in VIC. I think the govt here is fighting a rearguard action to slow the spread. I don’t think we ever did away with the mask mandate, just eased it a bit. That’s made it easier to go back to ‘careful’ living. I have been out to the local IGA, but even masked and with hand sanitiser at the ready it made me rather…anxious.
Hope you and the GO and Diesel had a safe and happy New Year’s Eve. -hugs-

I suspect Covid-19 will be with us permanently. Fingers crossed that Omicron indeed becomes ‘the’ Coronavirus – and hopefully that an even less problematic version follows. I did see a hypothesis that the 1889-1891 ‘Russian flu’ pandemic was actually caused by a Coronavirus, suggesting that such things trend towards lesser versions over a few years. Of course, everything has to be taken on its own account and who can really tell about Covid-19 until events pan out. But one lives in hope. I found a very detailed paper on the ‘Russian flu was Coronavirus’ hypothesis, here: https://sfamjournals.onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/full/10.1111/1751-7915.13889

Thanks, Matthew, just got through reading the article. The medical detective work was fascinating although I admit I didn’t understand a lot of it. What stayed with me the most was the connection to cows. I knew that ducks could spread the flu [thanks to a kid’s program called Sparkie], but I had no idea that disease could spread from cows to people. Actually, the whole zoonotic thing was rather scary. I doubt we’ll ever know for sure about the Russian ‘flu’ but those historical symptoms do sound awfully familiar.
Let’s hope Omicron finally burns Covid-19 out.

I was just grocery shopping, Andrea, and about 20% of the shoppers were not wearing masks. This thing is going to rage through the population, but the lower incidence of severe disease is a relief. Let’s hope this is the tail end and we can look forward to a degree of herd immunity in the near future. Hugs and stay safe!

Here in Melbourne we never got rid of the mask mandate, which might explain why are numbers have been slower to rise. In NSW most restrictions were abolished and masks were one of the first to go. I think they’re regretting it now.
I have high hopes for this year too. That said, we all thought 2021 would be a ‘better’ year so not counting any chickens just yet. 🙂
      You stay safe too. 🙂

Omicron’s not the end. In fact, it might be the harbinger of worse variants to come.

I FINALLY HAD MY BOOSTER SHOT ON FRIDAY. But since I have to be at hospital for tests on Wednesday I also am sticking as close to home as possible otherwise. Far too many generous people out there willing to share with me instead of masking it.
    Keep well please/

I’m so glad you’ve had your booster AND are not taking unnecessary chances, especially with all those generous people out there. Isn’t it odd that said generosity disappears the instant they have to put their hand in their pocket. You’d think wallets had teeth or something. 😉
