It’s hard to believe but it’s true: I’ve been blogging here on WP for ten years. Ten!?!
The weirdest part though is that I’m still enjoying it, and most of that is down to YOU. 🙂
Thank you to all the funny, quirky, compassionate, caring, clever, challenging people who’ve come to Meeka’s Mind and turned it into a home. You’ve become my mob, my community, my digital family, and I love you all.
I am the kind of person who always has to know why things are the way they are so my interests range from genetics and biology to politics and what makes people tick.
For fun I play online mmorpgs, read, listen to a music, dance when I get the chance and landscape my rather large block.
Work is writing. When a story I am working on is going well I'm on cloud nine. On bad days I go out and dig big holes...

-grin- Thanks Widds. I seem to recall that we met via one of my rants about WordPress. Can’t remember which one, but you have become a true ‘mate’ even if you are an Aussie escapee. :p
Aww…thank you. 🙂 I will admit though that my blogging has always been a bit hit-or-miss. Then again, that’s probably part of the reason I still enjoy it. 🙂
How long have you been blogging? I know I’ve been following you and the cats for a long time, but you were already an experienced blogger before I ever discovered your blog.
Oh, geez, I don’t remember how long I’ve been blogging! When I started, a friend coded my blog in HTML for her final project in coding. Then I coded my own with HTML in Notebook for a while. Then I had one on WordPress.com, and then I had this one. Twenty-something years?
Congratulations Meeks, I’m adding my good wishes sincerely to all those from your other friends. It’s been wonderful to have been part of your tribe throughout the good, bad and indifferent of the past decade.
-huge hugs- Thank you EllaD. Seems like a lifetime ago that you and the GO were in that tiny flat, growing plants on your tiny balcony. It’s been a great journey and it ain’t over yet! lol
Beat you to the next 10. 😉
10 years: that deserves a medal, or some other widely-recognised symbol! Well done; a blog is like a child that needs to be nurtured, coddled, disciplined, and of course INSPIRED. Thank you for your diligence and commitment, and blessings for 2022, G up near Byron Bay x 🙂
lol – yes, blogs are a lot like kids. I think I’ve been blessed in liking both the Offspring AND my blog. 😀 😀
Thanks for being part of my ‘tribe’. love from Meeks in Melbourne. 🙂
Oh. My. God….I totally missed this. Can’t say I’m sorry either. What a nasty piece of work he turned out to be. So glad I was never part of his ‘circle’. Yuck, yuck, yuck.
Thanks, Pinky. Appearances really are deceptive. Everyone thought /you/ were the bad boy, and instead, you’re the one in a stable, loving relationship, caring for unloved animals, creating beauty and generally being a nice guy.
Ahem. Apologies if that offends you. :p
Yes! That’s exactly what it is, supportive. Having friends online has made the last two years feel almost normal. We give a whole new meaning to the words ‘pen pal’. 😀
When I taught elementary school, I often was pen pals with another class in another part of the country. Sadly, many of the kids had never written a letter before (Grades 2-6) or knew how to address an envelope. Technology is great in so many ways, but the flip side is startingly alarming. I used to teach mapping, but I bet kids no longer are learning this in school since their phones do everything.
Yes. 😦 I mourn the loss of those survival skills even as I celebrate the freedom that having so much information available brings to me personally.
The thing that gives me hope is the resurgence of cooking and baking during the pandemic. And growing vegetables etc. I think we’ve all learned the value of being self-reliant. Let’s hope things never get so bad that our young slip into the Dark Ages for want of a times table or the ability to understand a map.
lmao – thanks Chris. Blogging has always felt more like play than ‘work’. I’ll still be here when I’m 90. I might stop announcing the number of decades though. 😉 -hugs-
Hi Ellen, and thank you! John Campbell is a treasure. His podcasts have allowed me to keep my sanity. Hope your Festive Season was safe and happy. 😀 -hugs-
-blush- Thanks, Stephen. It is kind of eerie though, when you start to count things in decades! Hope you had a great Christmas, and I hope we all get a great New Year. We deserve one. 😀
