I wasn’t game to say anything until I had a reasonable number of videos up, but I think I’m finally there, so…this is the link to my channel: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCHW0WF_RtBjPLBA0ervswtA/featured
Down the bottom you can see a number of playlists. They’re just categories of videos. The how-to playlist only contains one video, but in time, I intend to create videos for all of the relevant sections of the free ‘How to print your novel with Kindle Direct Publishing’ book.
I’m not there yet in terms of skill, but the video below is my first attempt to do a how-to for the ESO housing editor:
This video will be the first in a series, but boy was it hard to do. Having a chatty narration ‘style’ is one thing, waffling on is another.
Lesson number 1: boring viewers is a cardinal sin!
Lesson number 2: waffling on is boring, especially when the viewer only wants information. 😦
As my narration style is naturally, um, ‘chatty’, I’ve had to do a lot of cutting and splicing to get rid of the waffle. Great practice in editing, not so great for the sound quality which waxed and waned with each splice. In the end, I was forced to do one long take with deliberate pauses so I could edit out the worst of the gaffs without affecting the sound quality too much.
Those hiccups aside, I’m really enjoying this learning curve. If any of you are already experienced in creating videos or have recommendations for tools to use, I’d love to hear them. I’m currently using RecMaster which is a great entry level video recorder, but maybe not quite powerful enough for my ambitious projects.
I also have a favour to ask – could you please subscribe to my channel? Youtube will allow me to have a customised URL for my channel – i.e. something with my name in it instead of hieroglyphics – but only after I reach the magic number of 100 subscribers. At the moment I have 4. It’s a big ask, I know, but I would really appreciate your help on this one.
Have a wonderful weekend, me lovelies. 🙂
Hugs,
Meeks

Maybe your viewers don’t only want information. Sometimes we just want to walk around the garden with you, looking at the ‘view’, listening to your stories. Being authors, we know the importance of getting information across by telling stories. 🙂

will do. I tried out a few video editing apps for my laptop – my videos are dull, and sawing needs to be speeded up!! The only one I found I could get on with in an intuitive and really straightforward (I don’t expect to use it enough to warrant spending lots of time learning the package) is VideoPad Video Editor. There’s a free trial / basic package available, then a one off fee if you want to upgrade.

Technically I could have that baby inside the garage in about fifteen minutes. Procrastination…that’s what it is. The weather went from “too hot” to “too cold” too fast. 🙂 Today I have the eye doc for my regular exam, so today is pretty much shot. I just don’t feel like doing much of anything…lazy bum that I am. :-}

Not really cleaning it out, just moving tons of books and stuff. Empty boxes take up about half of it. If Scott sees an empty spot he will find a gadget or machine to fit into it. I just want Toyt to get into the garage before the roads get all yukky with slush and salt.

Dau1 just parked her characters from her Christmas creche in my garage…until she decides where to put them. I thanked her for telling me, I would have been scared out of my wits if I went out to the freezer and found a life-size guy in a turban standing there. I don’t do xmas decorating any more. I did when the kids were little, but no more. All that happy happy cheer and joy just make me depressed. Not my favorite time of year.

It just gets worse and worse here…the 17 year old kid that was playing vigilante and killed two men and injured another got off on all charges yesterday. Now he is being hailed as the poster child for the right wing nutcakes! I hasten to add that in my opinion the jury has ruled…according to our law…the not guilty decision…and our jury system works as good as any I guess. IMHO the not-guilty in this case is not becausse he didn’t do the crime, but for some fatsy-assed legal reasons he supposedly acted in self-defense. (He had a machine gun, the victims did not. (Oh, I can’t call them victimes….excuse me.)

I heard about that… Twelve good men and true? Democracy, like trial by jury, only works if /most/ people are decent, peaceful human beings who want to protect the society they live in. I fear the balance between good and evil as changed, dramatically. History is going to look back on Fox news and the whole Murdoch machine as the greatest danger the US has ever faced.

You speak truth white woman…. the Rittenhouse jury took four days to find the kid not guilty. The judge was an idiot…all but one of the jurists was white…the gun nuts were out in force… the kid was strutting around acting like a Western Sheriff in the 1800s. I hope he doesn’t fall prey to the Republican freakshow but there’s not much chance of that. He’s the Poster child for Guns. He still could be in a whole lot of whup-ass, but cleared of the murder charges.

That Rittenhouse business is odd…the idiot-Right was trying to make him look like a hero, gun-toting white-supremist. Now I suspect from what he says and other points that his defense team purposefully set out to glorify him for the right wingers…he refused two of the whacko congresspeople who offered him jobs in their offices. There is a big squbble over who gets the two million bail money…the lawyers think they should get it. Oh, and on the other big trial that was going on in Georgia…where three white men hunted down and killed a black man who was jogging…they have all been found guilty of murder. These guys are the epitome of the old stereotype down-home racists who still think its honorable to murder black people with impunity.

So many agendas. Good on him for refusing the jobs. Hard to know why – not really a rwnj [right wing nut job], or maybe those two congressmen were too whacko even for him. -shrug-
I am so glad racists killings are finally, finally starting to have consequences. Humans don’t change until they have to. No consequences = no reason to change. 😦

Done! Good on you for investing the time to learn the video tools. I would love to do this one day too. Only one comment on the narration style, which probably is not feasible at this point in the learning curve: I would speed it up a bit. Not sure if this is something you can do technically on a YouTube but I have heard that podcasters do it routinely. Keep up the good work!

Thanks, Mel. Very much appreciated. :d Re the speed thing, the video recorder I have is not super sophisticated so if/when I get a more powerful one, it may have some way of doing that. I have to admit though that I speak slowly because I’m trying hard not to say ‘um’ and ‘ah’. 😀
