Apologies all, I may have got my timezones a bit mixed. Just checked on Amazon and The Vintage Egg is already free. I thought it wouldn’t go free until later this evening. π¦
I’ve listed the urls of the amazon websites I know:
Amazon.com [US]
Amazon.co.uk [UK]
Amazon.com.au [Australia]
Amazon.ca [Canada]
Amazon.in [India]
If you’re trying to find the Egg from somewhere else, please type ‘The Vintage Egg acflory’ in your amazon search box. That should take you to the Egg.
Sorry this is a bit late. Please grab a copy before the Egg stops being free on March 6th. lol I feel like asking whether you want it hard boiled or fried. π
cheers
Meeks

I am the kind of person who always has to know why things are the way they are so my interests range from genetics and biology to politics and what makes people tick.
For fun I play online mmorpgs, read, listen to a music, dance when I get the chance and landscape my rather large block.
Work is writing. When a story I am working on is going well I'm on cloud nine. On bad days I go out and dig big holes...

I purchased and read the vintage egg several months ago and Iβm sorry I realize I never reviewed it. I have just taken care of that on Amazon and hope it shows up soon. Fantastic collection of short stories!!

Thank you, thank you! I just found it. I hoped for one, maybe two extra reviews. I’m stunned by how many the Egg and the others have received. -huge hugs-

There’s a certain cabal of eccentrics who want the entire world to adopt a single time zone, which I, being eccentric myself, think is a spectacularly brilliant idea. π … and UTC is slooooowly catching on.
Having 24 time zones worked perfectly well in the days before instantaneous global communication was commonplace, but now, when we’re poised to actually have humans set foot on another planet for colonisation purposes, it would make sense to have ‘Earth-Time’, Moon-Time’, Mars-Time’, etc … couldn’t have them all the same time yet, humans being the stubborn species they are, but if we don’t do ourselves in first, I can see a Startrek-ian Galactic Time, encompassing all habitats, planetary and off-world. π

Although it would be convenient in many ways, it would be a problem, too. Saying it’s 7am when the sun has just set can be confusing π€£

There’s the thing though, you wouldn’t have ‘am’s’ and ‘pm’s’. The 12/24-hour clock would cease to exist. and you’d get used to calling the time formerly known as 7am, as 57.32. (I just made that number up, I have no idea how a bunch of humans would manage to reach consensus on what numbers to use, I do know that it would take a very long time and involve many committees) π

I see π€
True, it will need a lot of time and effort.
I’ve read some time ago, that some more time ago an effort of creating an internet time was made, for internet events and communication. Using your example, one would say that the offer starts at 57.32 and end at 62.15, and this would be the same for anyone around the globe.
It’s long since I’ve read this, so it might have been from an unreliable source, but if not, I guess, it didn’t work even for internet events. It will be even more difficult for humanity to adopt this in their daily lives.

I wish they’d try something like in mmos. Instead of having all different real time clocks, we could just have a game clock, and all events would be on a kind of countdown. e.g. 2 hours from this point in game time, 1.5 hours from now, 45 mins from now etc etc. Basically once you logged in, you could look at the game clock and work out how far away the even was in simply hours.
-sigh- well that’s how this timezone challenged gamer would like to see it done. π

-grin- as a scifi fan myself, I /love/ that idea, just not sure I’d love the reality. I have trouble enough with daylight saving time. Plus how would we cope with the day/night cycle? Would the northern hemisphere get midnight to midday as 01 to 12 while we southerners would get 13 to 24? I guess we’d get used to it, but I’m sure it would cause a wee bit of resentment. π

Pretty much … a bunch of wealthy douche-canoes decided that the hoi polloi, on whose backs their douche-canoeing was built, wasted too much time in the mornings, especially in the summer doing horrific things like sleeping in, and not working hard enough … the way most things are brought into being in our society, eh?

Oh gods yes. I started writing at about 7:30 am and looked up to see that it was 3pm in the afternoon. Nothing but coffee and a few nuts to keep me going but I felt great. π

Yep … just topped out at 75,000-ish, and I reckon the story’s about halfway done … but truly, I have no idea – that’s the great thing about being a ‘pantser’! π

High Five, my friend! 75K is fantastic, especially given how quickly you’ve reached that point. I’m kind of envious. π
I start out as a pantster and then become a weird kind of hybrid, possibly because after the first book, things get set in concrete so you have to work your way around a million and one constraints. I totally understand the joy and rush of those ideas falling into place though. More power to your pen, um, keyboard. lol
