I did no work for this post whatsoever. The Offspring made the sweet bread rolls, and I can’t even tell you where the cup-and-saucer came from as the mark is so small and smudged I couldn’t make out even a single letter. But it is pretty. 🙂
The bread rolls turned out to be delicious, and vaguely reminiscent of croissants. Not as fluffy and flaky, of course, but the kind of flavour that you could eat with either jam or something more savoury. Definitely a hit.
The Offspring found the recipe for the bread rolls on Youtube and followed the instructions on the video. There are a lot of breadmaking videos so here’s a selection of good ones:
All three videos use plain [all purpose] flour, egg, butter, yeast, salt and sugar, but the techniques are slightly different. Oh, and the buns won’t rise quite so well if you make the gap between each ball too wide – i.e. they need to be close enough to support each other as they rise.
And now for the red tea. I couldn’t get the same ‘pink’ tea as before, so this time I tried Twinings ‘Cranberry & Pomegranate’. The flavour is great but it’s the smell that blows me away. I think they add hibiscus to the tea because the aroma is strong, distinctive and fruity/flowery.
-blush- Apologies, I sound like some wine buff waffling on about the ‘bouquet’ but honestly, the smell is divine, and that’s coming from someone who loves coffee!
If you’ve had a special treat lately, I’d love to hear about it. 🙂
cheers

Looks delicious, Andrea. Bread is something that I sorely miss on my keto diet. I could eat that whole tray in one sitting!!! And how nice to have the offspring baking for you. Enjoy.

I’ve come across the word ‘keto’ before but don’t really know what it means. I’m assuming it has something to do with gluten free? And commiserations. Bread is one of my great loves too.

Gluten free, carb free, sugar free. *Sigh* I love it and feel super healthy (most of the time). Oh, bread…..

Gah…any carbs? even say in nuts? I imagine it’s a very healthy way to eat but… -hugs-

12-20 carbs a day. We work it out, but wheat is over the top.

I…can’t imagine it. Then again, eating lots of greens and a variety of other vegetables is probably the healthiest form of diet. Proteins okay?

Protein is good. Fruit in very small quantities because of the sugar (another sigh from a person who can eat a gallon of blueberries or a giant watermelon in one sitting.) Lol.

Well…that’s something. I’ve been gradually decreasing the sugar in my coffee [the main source of sugar in my diet] for almost 2 years now and I’ve discovered that my taste buds get used to it pretty quickly. Now, other things seem to taste ‘brighter’. Hopefully you’ll now get the same ‘bang’ from a handful of berries. 🙂

I think we’ve all rediscovered the joy of little things, especially when they’re home made. Not all doom and gloom. I’ll bet you’ve been baking up a storm too. 🙂

Hell no, I’m cooking homemade meals as usual but not much baking with flour and sugar… the occasional loaf of bread or foccacia. I bake too much… we eat too much 🤔

lol lol lol! We eat too much as well. Trying to get my ‘constitutional’ by working in the garden but the weather hasn’t been co-operating.

Oh, of course. You’re in summer. I love this global community but keep forgetting that reality is very different between ‘north’ and ‘south’.

Looks great! I really ought to try baking something with yeast; somehow it seems intimidating. And I’m always on the lookout for new teas.

Tea and baked goods have definitely become a treat to look forward to in our house. 🙂 For me, the biggest surprise has been the tea. I have NEVER been a herbal tea drinker, but I now find myself really looking forward to 2pm-ish when I make that pot of aromatic tea.

Herbal teas perfect for evenings. I always take a cup to bed to accompany that last bit of reading.

These rolls look wonderful! I made oatmeal bread and tortillas yesterday. A little over a week ago, it was cream puffs (first time ever for me)–so good, I must only make them a couple times a year or I fear I’ll get too sweet… Hae a great week, Meeks! ❤ xo

Cream puffs…drool!!!! There aren’t many silver linings to this pandemic, but the rediscovery of baking and cooking in general has to count as one of the best. You’re right about the waistline though. 😉
