Okay, that is not a picture of coffee and cake, it’s a picture of coffee and a scone, but let’s not get too thingie about it. 😀
I’m posting this picture because an online friend mentioned how hard it was not to be able to share coffee and a chat with her friends. That’s something I’ve missed as well, so I’m going to share some home baked ‘something’ once a week.
When the ‘something’ is home made, I’ll share the recipe, but I don’t bake all the time so it may just be a pic of coffee [or tea] and a biscuit. 🙂
If you feel like doing the same, please leave a link to your ‘coffee and cake’ post in comments so we can all share a chat and a bit of togetherness.
Okay, I’ve already posted about the cheese scones so click here to see the recipe. No apologies for cheating. 😀
cheers
Meeks

I’m more a savoury person than sweet, and I loooove cheese. Yay for cheese scones, no strawberry jam… bleerggh… invited. But I’d have to pair them with a nice cup of tea.

I love savoury too, and yes, tea in a gorgeous cup and saucer is absolutely part of the deal!

[…] Meeks has decided to catch up with friends by posting her coffee and cake. I am missing the catch ups with friends too, usually down at the local coffee shop. So let’s chat over a morning cuppa. […]

Feel free to join in! You don’t have to bake yourself. A biscuit of any sort will do. I suppose it’s more to show what you like than what you can ‘do’. 😀

if you were on the evil FB, you could participate in the vicarious ‘pre-supper-snifters’ my pals and I do every day or so. And now I’ve engaged my neighbour, and we send each other WhatsApp chin-chins each day, just to check in. Mind you, I’ll be seeing her later – she was bought a leg of lamb and needs it boning. I reckon I’ll have earned my wine after that good deed 😉

There are times when I almost regret deleting FB. Then I remember why I deleted it in the first place and I’m glad. It is evil, as is Google, which I also deleted. Call me a radical come I’ve come to believe that most of the world’s problems stem from corporate power, and the sociopaths that wield it. There, rant over. 🙂

lmao – see my comment on Yorgos’ comment on your comment. 😀
One question: why does a leg of lamb have to be boned? The bone is what gives the meat most of its flavour?!?

because my lovely neighbour is on her own, in her eighties and in isolation. With the best will in the world, couldn’t face a 3kg leg roasted and then reheated / converted / cold for the length of time it would take her to eat it. She had the leg end that had a joint in it (yay) so I was able to bisect it neatly and now she has two more manageable joints, and I have her gratitude!!

Looks great!
In our house the default comfort sweet is shortbread – just sugar, butter and flour, maybe with crushed dark chocolate thrown in 🙂

A slight change in the recipe, for people – like me – who can hardly boil water successfully: Just sugar, maybe with crushed (dark) chocolate.
I’m making this! 🤣
Your edition sounds excellent, too! 🤤🤤😇

I made a strawberry-rhubarb pie a few days ago. Local rhubarb (i.e., my own garden), California strawberries. No picture, unfortunately, and it’s all gone. I reduced the sugar by half and added a bit of cardamom, which goes beautifully with the rhubarb and berries.

I love rhubarb but I’ve never had it with strawberries. Usually the recipes are for rhubarb and apple. Next time you make… 😉

I keep forgetting you guys are going into fall. Both rhubarb and strawberries are spring treats here, although local strawberries come in June. Right now we have the ones imported from Mexico and California.

Yes, opposite ends of everything. Given the bushfires we had in December and January, I’m delighted summer is over. This is going to be one of the strangest years in our collective history.

Lovely idea Meeks!
A friend was in quarantine at Crown for the 14 days. Everyday a couple of pieces of fruit arrived for each of them. The fruit mounted up, so they brought it home, knowing it would just be thrown out otherwise. She dropped off a bag of apples and oranges. I made a German apple cake from the Nursing Mum’s Cookbook. It was delicious, and easy. There is one slice left, so that can be my Coffee and Cake blog!

Yes! Please post it. We were given a stack of heritage apples from a farm in Daylesford. As they brown really quickly, we cooked them up into sauce and apple crumble. Life can’t be too bad when you have apple crumble for dessert. 😀

I used to, but haven’t played in years. We still have a piano but it’s sadly out of tune. Maybe once this pandemic is over I’ll get the piano fixed up again.
