Some days are just so good, you have to stand up and dance. Today is one of those days:
‘Yes, this book is different and weird and unlike anything else I’ve ever read. But that’s the point! If intelligent life exists on other planets, it’s going to be bizarre and foreign and at least semi-incomprehensible to human intellects. Reading this book really did feel like being transported to an alien world, and that was fantastic. I wish I’d read it sooner, because it really is a master-class in world-building. Vokhtah is a haunting, vividly-constructed depiction of a fascinating world—one I’d happily revisit.’
That quote comes from a wonderful review of Vokhtah that I stumbled across this morning. I know Vokhtah will never become a best seller, but so long as readers ‘get it’ every now and then, I’ll be happy.
You can read the entire review on Berthold Gambrel’s blog:
Have a wonderful weekend, my friends.

I’m thrilled, Audrey, and also terrified. Berthold wasn’t kidding – Vokhtah is not an easy read. I’ve been accused of dumping readers right in the middle of things, and it’s true. I won’t be at all offended if you don’t like it. That said, I really really hope you do. 🙂

I’m not really up with teen talk, but I’m sure I’ve heard teenagers saying that, or something similar? here in Australia. 🙂

Hello Meeka. Sorry this is OT, but I am concerned about you. Are you guys doing OK? I heard that you got a lot of rain that helped control the fires. I know you may not want your blog to be about that , but please keep us updated on your safety. Thanks. Hugs

-hugs- thanks for being concerned, Scottie. And yes, we’re fine. Where I am in Melbourne is a long way from where the fires were. Love that word ‘were’! The weird, almost monsoonal rains finally put the fires out in Gippsland and New South Wales. Down where we are, we got hail storms and heavy rain that turned February into ‘winter’. Today is the first day that it’s been warm in well over a week. Very strange.
Anyway, it looks as if the worst of the bushfire threat is over for this summer. -fingers crossed-
