The on again, off again advert in my no.1 sidebar is back for the umpteenth time so I’m asking everyone who visits my blog to click the button under the advert that says ‘Report this ad.’ [or words to that effect]. I’m going to re-run this post once a week until something happens to break this deadlock.
I have no idea whether I’ll achieve any lasting reversal, but my only other option is to shut up shop and start a new blog somewhere else. Meeka’s Mind has been a wonderful home to me, and I really, REALLY don’t want to leave, but in these circumstances, paying not to have ads would feel exactly like paying protection money. Can’t do that. ๐ฆ
Thanks in advance,
Meeks

I have emailed you as suggested in your later post, and sent you some screen shots. I am now reading that it changed depending on your browser – perhaps it links to the browser history, and ‘guesses’ at what your interest is based on what you last used your browser for? I have different browsers I use for different things – which sounds dodgy, but is because I am the default IT assistant for 2 family members, so keep two separate browsers on my pc, one for each so I can see what they are seeing!

I clicked on “report this ad” under the Air France advert and I was asked if I wanted to “allow Air France” to note my location. NO! This is nuts. There was no option to HIDE the ad or even to express dismay. Instead I was hunted by the advertiser.

Ouch. I’m so sorry Candy. I haven’t see that one. When I’ve hit that button [without being logged in to my site] it doesn’t seem to do much of anything. Maybe it changes with the advertiser. God this just goes from bad to worse. ๐ฆ

Nope, not there. Does it appear as a ‘pop up’ or is it embedded?

Hi Mick. It’s embedded, but there’s something odd about how it works. I tried looking at my blog via IE, Firefox and Chrome, all at the same time. Each browser displayed a /different/ advert. in that spot.
I honestly don’t know how it works or why it’s there sometimes but not others. ๐ฆ

i suppose if it’s only you that sees it, it’s not a very effective advert, though!

I don’t ever see any ads on WP. I view blogs through the app on my phone, and also via the email I get for the ones I follow. I don’t think I have an ad blocker, though I do have a paid for McAfee security package on both my Microsoft laptop and android phone

Ah, that could be it. I have to say though, part of /my/ confusion is that this one ad. literally appears and then disappears, only to reappear again. I have no idea what’s going on.

also, given I use WP for free, I would expect the occasional ad, and in the same way as I justify using the free Guardian app rather than subscribing, click on any that are inoffensive, to generate an income for the platform. x

Yeah, I haven’t cared about the ads that appear below my posts. They’re fine because they don’t hurt my blog at all. It’s that damn one up there on my sidebar that makes me angry. Most casual visitors will look at the first ‘page’ and go no further. So they never see the bits about following. That hurts. ๐ฆ

lol – Thank you for the thought! I honestly don’t know what’s what as some people see it, some don’t, and even I don’t see it all the time. If I didn’t know better I’d think someone was messing with my mind!

Meeks, I understand how you feel. However I can not help you because I use a free advert blocker so I do not see the adverts on any blog. So I can not click to report it. If you do move your blog, please let me know so I can follow you again. Be well. Hugs
