One of the first friends I ever made online is George, of Ready, Aim Click. George is also my go-to person for info on graphics, gaming and the tech that drives both. This is the eye-popping youtube video he just sent me:
If you’re getting a bit long in the tooth, like me, and wondering what all this VR bunk is all about, this video may change your mind about the value of the technology. I know, because it’s changed mine. I WANT IT NOW! -cough- Sorry.
The VR equipment you see in the video clip is probably top of the line and so expensive I can’t see me buying it any time soon. But…prices will drop, eventually, and when they do, this little old lady is going to be at the head of the queue. 😀
cheers

Too cute!! But my mom is a techno wiz, so don’t judge a book by its cover! But you knew that 😉

-grin- Kindred spirits! I’ve actually been surprised lately by how many ladies of my vintage are out doing the guys when it comes to technology. We should form a club. 😀

It seems that in Australia there’s only 1 demo location for the HTC Vive. (Well in Cyprus it’s none so… :P)

Meh…it’s in Sydney. Figures. I’m in Melbourne, a whole state and almost 900 km away. 😦
Fingers crossed it’ll come to Melbourne one fine day.

I love this! Lots of great applications for future, but I especially like the smoking zombies game. Talk about a treasure trove for writers!

I don’t mind the zombies but the disappearing floor made me very queasy, just looking at it. As for inspiration, oh my yes. 😀

I’ve recently seen the VR goggles on sale at a very low price and I’m told they work on your phone. I don’t expect there could be much technology from that in comparison to your video but t shows they’re working in every direction. I see nothing to be scared about (except zombies) fro embracing these changes, we have a lifetime’s experience of breakthroughs we’ve already adapted to.

The specific unit shown in the video is one of the most expensive and high end ones, only working with a PC. The goggles for the phones are actually using the phone and its screen as the processing unit and the view.

I loved it also. I think with all the different software out there it could serve so many need of elderly. Exercise, instruction, and yes fun. I did notice the difference between the guys and the gals when playing zombie shooter. The guys were recovering their little boys playing cowboys and zombies, and the gals were much less into it and more hesitant. Thanks for the video. Hugs

-grin- Yeah, zombies wouldn’t be my first or tenth choice for a game but it certainly got them moving and reacting. The exercise idea is great, especially if we could have sexy avatars to exercise /in/. 😀

I like the one’s who say “holy crap,” and “f***” and “s***” and “holy s***” and “God D***** and “A** h***”! Cool hipsters! They are making fun of these people for being older, but they have so much fun with it, who cares?

Exactly! The thing I love, love, love about the video clip is that it rips up those stupid expectations of age. Over 60? Grab those crochet hooks and start knitting, or playing a gentle game of golf, or bowls…bah! we have to stop placing artificial limitations on ourselves. 😀
