I’ve been uploading files to sync.com all weekend, and in the process, I’ve revisited some very old files and photos. This one is of my Dad and Missy, an old man and an old dog, keeping each other company in front of the fire, even though the day was not that cold.
I’m not quite sure why this particular photo fills me with such tenderness, but it does. It’s homey and familiar, as if years of every day scenes have been condensed into one, perfect image.
My thanks to Sallyanne Hartnell for capturing this moment and saving it for me.
cheers

What a great photo, thanks for sharing. It reminds me of how my grandpa got so cold in his later years. He was always bundled up and had the heater on full blast.

Yes! Dad was like that too. He wore that jacket summer and winter. Had to wrestle it off him to send it to the cleaners. I think he used to sit there in front of the fire just dreaming. Or perhaps remembering.

There’s a special understanding between children, dogs and the elderly.

Yes. In a perfect world, childcare would be run by retirees and their pets. I hate how our culture works so hard to separate them. For a few years we had 3 generations in my house and it worked. 🙂

There is something very solitary and private about each of them in the photo, although they are keeping each other company. A lovely gift indeed!

Yes. Missy was the Offspring’s dog but somehow she and Dad struck a bond of sorts, late in life.

Maybe the day wasn’t too cold but staring into the fire is for any weather. It evokes such great memories.Dogs aren’t too bothered about it.
