I couldn’t resist following up some of the information in the previous videos, so here’s one about testing whether dogs are capable of:
- recognizing that something is unfair and,
- reacting accordingly
Unfortunately, only the first two minutes of this video are in English, but the experiment looks pretty conclusive to me:
This next video is a TED talk presented by Frans de Waal [thanks Hariod!]. It goes for approximately 16 minutes but is really interesting in terms of the parallels between human and [certain] animal behaviour:

Anybody who thinks animals don’t think, reason, observe, and understand has either spent too little time with animals or lacks the capacity to think, reason, observe, and understand. 😉

Absolutely. I know we [humans] will never stop believing that we’re the apex of the pyramid when it comes to intelligence, but there’s no excuse for believing that everything else is like an animated rock with ears.

My Border Collie Nellie was so much more sensitive to the world than me. She could sometimes anticipate thoughts I was about to have and yet had not yet realised myself I was about to have.
