As a science fiction writer, I’m always on the lookout for unusual and innovative technology, and this ‘straddling bus’ ticks both of those boxes for me. Sadly,…it may not be sci-fi for very much longer. 🙂

Could you work this into a story? 😀

lol – I’d love to! Sadly nothing springs to mind just yet. If you can come up with something I’d love to read it. 🙂

I saw the story too, although thanks for the video explainer as I didn’t catch that. It looks great, but there’s only one snag I can see: what about vehicles higher than two metres? All those shops and businesses which need deliveries every day? Those vehicles are going to have to be banned/replaced on roads where this bus runs, and that’s going to be a headache for business. And as we know, if business doesn’t like something, it doesn’t usually get done.

Yes, if this does take off it would definitely be a disruptive technology. That said, though, I think it would probably begin only on ‘main’ roads where shops are not impacted that much.
Here in Melbourne we have trams [roughly half the width] and they really do impact traffic but everyone’s used to them so no one really gets uptight about them. I imagine if these buses do come in, motorists will work around them as well.
