I’ve written some pretty unhappy posts about Final Fantasy XIV over the last few months, but no matter how angry I get, one thing keeps me playing. And this is it. My house in Mist:

From the outside

The front door

Warmth and books

And a place to cook 🙂

Going downstairs…

…into…

…the bedroom!

with its own oriental ensuite!
And finally the best feature of all – the view.

Dawn breaks in Mist
Yet as pretty as this scene is, it still doesn’t convey the eerie sense of reality I get when I sit here, staring down at the beach and watching the waves come in. Yes, there are waves and breakers and they move, seemingly at random.
But the waves are not the only things that move. Birds fly overhead, casting a shadow, or the quality of the light changes due to time of day or weather, or off on the horizon you see the dim outline of a ship with massive sails, majestically sailing out of sight…
No prizes for guessing where a lot of my ideas for Innerscape came from.
Have a lovely Sunday,
Meeks
p.s. most of the furnishings are crafted. If anyone is interested, I can tell you what each piece is, which craft makes it and what level recipe it is. Let me know in comments.

Mmm…if I understand that article correctly, the company intends to build an artificial body – read robot – to house a cloned? version of a dead human’s brain?
My first thought is – none of the ‘robots’ currently available look like they could do the job…even after another 30 years. As for the artificial intelligence part – no matter how good it is it’s still at best a replica. No idea about the cloning but the whole thing sounds more day dream than reality to me.

I suspect this is like the whole cryogenics ‘industry’ – aimed more at those grasping after immortality [or at least the promise of it] than anything real. I think life extension may well become a reality. Of course, that too will have all sorts of negative consequences, but isn’t that what life is all about?

I’m on Balmung, so it couldn’t have been you. Perhaps I’ll roll an alt on Moogle just so I can have them meet Meeka xD

Oooo! That’s beautiful! I’m not familiar with Final Fantasy. Is it like Second Life? I tried Second Life, but it was too much like Real Life only more random. I couldn’t deal with it. heh

No! Nothing like Second Life. Heaven forbid. I tried SL as well and hated it.
No, FFXIV is an mmorpg with lots of fighting and a strong storyline. Plus nice things like crafting and player housing. 🙂

I wouldn’t like that. Or maybe I’m afraid I’d love it — I don’t want to fight. That’s why I turn the monsters off on Minecraft, which disgusts my grandsons. lol

I hate doing dungeons, but I do like bashing away at things sometimes. 🙂

Good to hear you’re sticking it out! If there is one common aspect to content in ffxiv it’s hard work,

Some of it is really worth it! I’m doing the relic weapon at the moment and it’s so involved. Even though I don’t need to do it with HW weapons, I’m enjoying the progression :$

Gah…now that is something I could not do. I’m a crafter first and foremost. That’s enough grinding for me!

From crafting, to instances, to glamour, to buying houses, we all have to go through the steps which usually involve a quest or forty. Your house looks fantastic! Very well decorated! I’ve been viewing many houses recently. My fc wants to buy one in a couple months for performances. It’s a great additio that allows us to take a step back and just experience immersion.

Yes, the housing adds something to the game that lifts it from straight, gorgeous looking mmo to something more. It’s a pity SE can only deal with the housing shortage by cancelling houses when people take a break from the game. 😦

I think this post has answered my central question about you and gaming. The idea of creating a fantasy home for myself is intriguing.

-grin- don’t be fooled, I enjoy running around killing things as well [very therapeutic] but the crafting and housing give me a sense of achievement as well as play. 🙂

It looks like you’ve put s lot of work into it… an interesting way of virtually crafting a virtually reality via practically creating a virtual reality!
