This would have to be one of the most powerful, potentially life-changing TED talks I’ve ever seen. It’s about neurogenisis – the growth of new neurons in the adult brain – it’s relationship to depression and the relationship of environmental factors to both.
As a 62 years old woman who does not want to drool into a bib by the time I’m 80, this research is wonderful. Watch and decide for yourself.

Good to know that good food plays an important part in regeneration, I am not so sure about the running though. Perhaps I can just eat more blueberries!

Yes, the running part set me back a bit too. I think I’m allergic to running. But I’m hoping once they do more experiments they’ll discover that any aerobic exercise will do.

I have a book recommended by my sister The Brain That Changes Itself, on my shelf and to read list. Interesting topic.

I think so, according to the blurb. I haven’t read it yet. I hope I get to it in time…

I’m definitely watching this one. Fingers crossed that red wine, going to the gym on a regular basis and reading are on the Rx for new brain cells.

I put the video on the to watch list, but from the title i’m hoping that it’s telling you how to actually start helping the brain right now, instead of how you’ll get a new brain if something goes wrong.

lol – yes! The researcher shows how we can help the growth of new brain cells by not eatings ‘as much’, eating healthy foods, learning new things, exercising. It’s brilliant. 🙂
