I woke this morning to find that Indies Unlimited had posted the first part of a three-part article I recently submitted. Damned timezones! Anyway, Part two comes out tomorrow, and Part three the day after.
Why should you care? Because it’s my first attempt at ‘investigative journalism’, that’s why!
No! I’m kidding. You should care because the article[s] tries to determine if :
a) Reviews make a difference to sales, and
b) There is any strategy that can increase the effectiveness of the reviews you do get.
Non authors will probably find these articles boring, but they do give an insight into how difficult it is to make any headway in marketing, and how desperate the need to be ‘seen’ can be.

It is a dilemma, and I will read the second part of the article. Not that I am an author — and I admire all of you who are — but I can appreciate the problem of invisibility. I have an Esty store, one of hundreds of thousands, and there must be trillions of items for sale. In my mind I liken it to a vast shopping mall, with my shop way, way w-a-y down in the back corner, where I hope some traffic will pass by. So I can see why authors grasp at reviews. And I am curious to know whether they do make you more visible.

Hi Anne, apologies for taking so long to respond but I couldn’t see my comments for days so I’m madly catching up now.
When it boils down to the nitty gritty, an ebook is a product just like a button or a toothbrush so we face the exact same problem.
To me, reviews are part of the word of mouth form of advertising. I’m sure your store works on the same basis, although I’m not sure exactly how it would work for real world ‘things’.
Can you post the link to your store as I wasn’t even aware you had one. Sorry, I have been horribly slack the last few months. 😦

I completely understand. I have had the computer needing a visit to the computer doctor and me needing a visit to my doctor for a stomach bug. and it is hot! They are my excuses, but maybe I am just lazy! 🙂
