Iain Banks
Iain Banks is a Scottish writer I have loved for a very long time. You may know him better as Iain M. Banks. He has written many wonderful novels in both mainstream and science fiction genres. My favourites are The Wasp Factory and Feersum Endjinn.
I was devastated to learn today that Iain Banks has terminal cancer.

I am the kind of person who always has to know why things are the way they are so my interests range from genetics and biology to politics and what makes people tick.
For fun I play online mmorpgs, read, listen to a music, dance when I get the chance and landscape my rather large block.
Work is writing. When a story I am working on is going well I'm on cloud nine. On bad days I go out and dig big holes...

I had heard of Iain Banks (The Wasp Factory) but not read any of his books. I followed your link to his Personal Statement – if only we could all deal with such awful life eventualities with as much poise and humour. I wish him well in whatever time he has.

Me too. I’m still kind of stunned. People you admire always seem larger than life, and immortal somehow. But I think he’s going to make the most of every single moment he has left. Amazing man.

It seems more and more people know someone or of someone with cancer. Is it growing more prevalent or does it just seem so? I’m sorry to hear of his illness.
