It’s quite a lovely day today, with clear skies, very little wind and not too much heat, but I’m sitting at my desk with dry eyes and a blocked nose. Am I coming down with a cold? Nope, there’s just a lot of smoke in the air. None of that smoke is coming from nearby but it still makes me nervous.
I managed to squeeze in a couple of hours of writing first thing in the morning, so I’ve accomplished something, but now I’m facing an afternoon of boredom listening to talk-back radio on ABC 774. [774 is the official bushfire warnings channel].
Oh joy, now they’re talking about nasty biting things and antivenom. As someone who is terrified of snakes and redbacks, this is not reassuring.
Why can’t 774 just play music interspersed with bushfire warnings and news reports?
Never mind. A song just came on. Clearly the ABC and I have different tastes in music.
Have I mentioned I’m really ready for summer to be over? I want to be able to listen to Two Steps From Hell and write without checking the CFA website every five minutes. I want to cook roasts and big pots of hearty soup. I want to be able to go for a walk without coming back looking like I’ve been through a car wash…
Okay, enough! I’m sinking into a deep depression here. Time for something more upbeat. I was going to save this for the weekend but I need it now! Enjoy.
Meeks waves goodbye as she bops towards the coffee pot. Thank god for caffeine.

Smoke on the water, fire in the sky…..
Yep, appropriate.
Have you noticed how spectacular the sunsets are at the moment though?

We eat late as the Daughter doesn’t get back from class until about 7.30pm so I’ve missed the sunsets but I’ve read they’re most spectacular when there’s crud in the air. :/

Amazing orange sunsets in the blue sky, what a beautiful sight. If only it wasn’t because of the smoke…

If the clouds clear, I’ll check it out tonight.

What a very appropriate record to play. Just as well you didn’t think of FIRE by The Crazy World of Arthur Brown. Maybe you’d have been better off with Fire Brigade by The Move?
Your Summer must be well on the way out by now so soon you’ll be able to get back to rattling those pots and pans and maybe they’ll play some decent music on the radio for you. In the meantime can we leave the talk about snakes and spiders to Metan. She likes things that creep, crawl and slither.
Hope your day has improved a lot since your hear Deep Purple.
Huge Hugs to you. xx

-grin- I am more than happy to leave the creepy crawlies to Metan! And thank you, I’m feeling much more cheery.

Wouldn’t want you to go and think that us kids don’t know our seventies music.

I am surprised though. I mean, where do you hear 40 year old music?
February 14th, 2013 at 3:37 pm
There’s hardly a moment during the day when I don’t have music on. Even in school, I have my trusty ipod, or my laptop. I guess I have to turn it off when the teachers say something.
I listen to a lot of music, and so does my friends. It would be kind of boring if all we listened to were the ten singles that top the charts.

lol – I guess that’s true but I’m still impressed!

Great choice of music, Meeks
Here in Warsaw it’s around minus 10 and we’re all so fed up with snow and ice, you wouldn’t believe. We can’t wait for sunshine and summer – send some over, would you?

I’ll swap you some sun for a couple of your minuses!

Nothing like a little music to switch the mood around!
