Apologies everyone. This link definitely works.
It’s Saturday here in the Antipodes, so the weekend has already begun Downunder.
It began particularly well for me because Chris James, fellow science fiction writer and Indies Unlimited regular, just made my day. His post, The homophone game, ended with a video clip of ’Dreamer’, one of my favourite Supertramp songs from the 70′s.
What? You weren’t born in the 70′s? You’ve never heard of Supertramp? Your parents didn’t educate you in the rock classics? For shame!
Okay kiddies, this one is just for you. Oh, and I’d recommend learning about those homophones while you’re at it. Just saying….
I have all the old Supertramp LP’s [look it up] but no longer own a turntable [look that up too], so hearing ‘Dreamer’ again after all these years was a real treat, and I’m going to buy the CD’s as soon as I finish this post. Music this good should not be forgotten. I will also post another Supertramp favourite tomorrow, although I suspect at least some of you will be heading straight to Youtube to get your music fix.
Enjoy me lovelies and may the weekend rock!
-hugs-

Love Supertramp! I’ve still got the old Breakfast In America LP

Roger Hodgson really was a genius. I know I’m an old fogey but to me the 70′s were like a golden era.

Happy Weekend from Friday night in a snow storm on the other side of the world.
February 9th, 2013 at 5:49 pm
Ungh. I heard on the news that you’ve got another bad storm coming? Ok so far?

Bugger, I couldn’t use your link so I’ll have to head for youtube. Like most of us this was my favourite Supertramp track but I’m trying to remember if the ‘B’ side of the single was ‘Bloody well right’ which I also loved. Great group who shouldn’t be forgotten.
Hugs

Damn! Just checked that link and I’m getting the same error message.
I’ll try and work out what’s wrong.

I was a Supertramp FREAK! … still am
February 9th, 2013 at 5:54 pm
Sorry about the link. Just learned it’s not working.

-grin- I knew you were a woman of good taste.
I think I’m going to have to a bit of retro music some time soon. How do you feel about Deep Purple? Or the Beach Boys?

Thank you, Meeks! One of those little things that niggles me is when they do a “best bands” or “best albums” compilations of the 70s and Supertramp is never there. I don’t get it at all. Breakfast in America was one of the biggest sellers of the 70s (although very good, not their best album, imo), but today it’s as though theyve just been forgotten. Outrageous.

Yes I know.
I just don’t understand it either. And yet, in some of those crowd scenes I saw really young people singing along. My daughter knows all their songs. Maybe Supertramp is just too highbrow in the hiphop era.
You have inspired me though. I might make weekends my 70′s revival!

But it’s the quality of the song writing, especially from Hodgson, that really stands out. The 70s was incredibly rich decade musically, although we wouldn’t know till later. I know it’s a cliche, but they just don’t writen them like that anymore

lol – we’re sounding like old fuddy duddies but… I AGREE! And do you know what surprised me the most about Hodgson? His voice has become /better/ with age.

Great stuff. Love Supertramp as well. You brought back memories. You know how music gives us that cosmic connection? Well Supertramp does that to me and transports me back to that period. So weird and so awesome.
February 10th, 2013 at 10:57 am
I know! I felt exactly the same way when I found the video clip on Chris’ blog. I’ve been thinking about that era the whole weekend.

p.s. Finally worked out how to follow you!
February 10th, 2013 at 5:18 am
happy weekend
to you too
its an amazing song…hearing it for the first time
February 10th, 2013 at 11:02 am
OMG… I’m so glad I put it up then.

I love Dreamer and also all of Roger Hodgson’s other classics such as Breakfast in America, The Logical Song, Take the Long Way Home, Give a Little Bit, and so many more. I have been a huge fan for years and I was so blessed to be able to see Roger live in concert last year. I cannot wait to see him again. We are so fortunate that he is still touring. Be sure to see him if you can!
February 11th, 2013 at 12:19 pm
I’d love to see him live. His voice has become better with age, and it was brilliant to start with. If he ever comes to end of Australia I will be there.
February 11th, 2013 at 2:09 pm
You’re in luck! Roger is coming to Australia this March / April with his band. I was just reading some of the comments on his guest book and it sound like this show is a winner – people can’t say enough good things. The tour dates are on his site RogerHodgson (dot) com.
February 11th, 2013 at 2:44 pm
Wow…. Thanks so much Richard! I’m off to his site right now.

Now I feel put upon. As if I wouldn’t know what, and who, Supertramp are. I’ve performed Dreamer, I’ll let you know, at a school concert.
And my parents never taught me a thing about music. If they had, my musical taste would have been horrid.
February 13th, 2013 at 1:56 pm
lmao – apologies! Did you really sing Dreamer? I am so impressed. It’s not an easy song. Then again I have heard you sing and you’ve got the range for it.
February 13th, 2013 at 5:42 pm
I’m afraid I massaged the song quite a bit. My voice wasn’t entirely stable when I performed it. It had a tendency to fail miserably, and all that would come out were squeaks.
February 13th, 2013 at 6:48 pm
lmao – some of those notes are high!
